Best of Guy Ritchie ...

Guy Ritchie may not be as well known as Steven Speilberg or Martin Scorsese, but to say that he has more than earned the right to be called one of the best directors currently won't be an exaggeration at all!

You gotta see his movies to believe this statement .... and the best ones so far of his career as director are here for you to sample...

Each of these movies has thrilled me right to the core and had had me jumping up and down in my seat b'coz of the suspense and sheer style of his.... It's a unique one mastered by few! Without further ado let's visit his best movies!...

P.S. - Just as Martin Scorsese loves to work with Leonardo Dicaprio, Ritchie loves to work with Jason Statham :-)

  • Sherlock Holmes (2009)
Note - Those who have read Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle would agree with me when i say that it's almost impossible to transform the romance, the thrill, the whimsical yet genius character of Sherlock Holmes and the unique way of Sir Doyle's manner of writing into a movie... However, Guy Ritchie with Robert Downey Jr. have succinctly made it possible!! And not just that have in fact made it even better (if that's even possible!) :-)

  • Sherlock Holmes - Game of Shadows (2011)

Even more thrilling than the first part, after all in this part Sherlock meets his jaani dushman Professor Moriarty!! :-D

  • Snatch
A classic Guy Ritchie movie, complete with colloquial British English (i  bet you would need subtitles to understand all the dialogues!! and believe me, there's no shame in it!! Go ahead :-) )
What's more it has Brad Pitt and Jason Statham both in the same movie!!!!

His Best movie so far without any doubt if you exclude Game of Shadows....

  • Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
If Game of Shadows and Snatch are his best, then this easily his second best movie till now!! :-)

  • Rock n Rolla
A Guy Ritchie movie starring Gerard Butler! What more can one wish for! :-)

  • Revolver
A nice one but it failed to wow me as much as the ones above...

Not a  Guy Ritchie Movie But in the Same Line...

  • Layer Cake
Direccted bby Matthew Vaughn but i felt that it definitely belongs here :-) What's more it has Daniel Craig as the protagonist :-) Absolute delight!!!

Humshakals-- Sajid Khan was laughing at and making fun of us 'tolerant' indian audience, all the way to the bank!!

As one critic ( the rare sane guy from Ahmedabad Mirror!) rightly said in his review-- "the joke is on you" ...

Hoped they had a 0 or even minus rating!!

Thankfully (or not) we had a 8 year old amidst us and as she was
finding this movie quite a fun, we had a good time hearing her laugh
and watching her rolling in the seat :-)

Otherwise, i assure u we would have had a stroke or would have to get
ourselves admitted in agra mental asylum !! My sympathies with
guys who were not as lucky as us ....

Yes we had a few laughs because my friend had warned me it would be
intolerable and our expectations were ... NONE whatsoever!!

That said,, what really struck me was the obvious fact in the movie
that

THE WRITER AND DIRECTOR HAD MADE THIS MOVIE WITH A PRESUMPTION THAT Indian AUDIENCE HAS AN IQ OF AN 8 YEAR OLD!!!!

WHY ELSE DO ALL THE 'BIG BUDGET' movies like Chennai Express, Dubang 2
are made out to be as BRAINLESS as possible!!! THE DIRECTORS and
producers who r investing crores are not totally idiots are they!

Lets face it--- a low level shameless Hollywood rip-off ( Krish, dhoom
3) or a BRAINLESS comedy like ( golmaal returns, housefull, chennai
express, humshakals) MAKE FAR BIGGER BUCKS IN THE BOX OFFICE than a meaningful one like queen, dil chahta hai etc ( with very few exceptions like 3 idiots)

And this brings us to an 'ugly truth' conclusion that --

Just as 70% of India lives in villages, 90% of India's audience love low IQ / poor imitation movies which are usually racist/ show women as men's sex slaves or have non-veg jokes at the cost of homosexuals and
others...

Akshay Kumar and SRK have very well understood this phenomenon and
accordingly have changed the type of movies they sign up for. in the
last ten years, they have hardly made any movie which has even an iota
of meaning in it--

And yet they have gone on to become the richest of the lot!!!!

Akshay kumar, after herapheri success, suddenly resorted to such
brainless comedies ..

SRK - it's hard to believe that a guy who has acted in Swades and My
Name Is Khan ,, prefers to act in movies like Om Shanti Om and Chennai
Express!!

Both siblings- Farah (with SRK's blessings) and Sajid have eagerly
embraced this formula of BRAINLESS movies and unabashedly churn out
such blackhole movies...

And unless the 90% Indian audience, Whose brain has been addled by Ekta
Kapur soap operas, wake up from their stupor,, this is going to go on
:-)

However, one reassuring fact is that this phenomenon is not limited to India... It Is seen in hollywood too!

Don't believe me? Watch the following movies ( i dare you to watch it till the end! ;-D ) and u will have to agree with me :)

Pineapple express
This is The End
Superbad
These movies have Seth Rogen and the late Phillip Seymour Hoffman ( not surprisingly, he ODed). I have found out that these guys are the US versions of Farah khan and Sajid .. I am serious!!

Rather than mentioning Jim Kerry as his inspiration at the start of Humshakals, Sajid Khan should have mentioned these two idiots as his inspiration-- it would have been more believable! :-D

I can only say this much- had Jim Kerry watched this movie, he would have shot / ODed himself! ( the poor fellow is already suffering from major depression, and Hamshakals would have been the final blow to his mental state!! ;) )

P.S. - to the TOI movie 'critics' who literally have no balls ( ha ha - that is funny acc. to sajid khan) , u seriosuly need to be replaced by someone who has any ( and i mean
figuratively ;) ha ha ha again- courtesy Sajid khan )

After all, how can a movie critic of such an established newspaper give a brainless and often racist movie like this a 3/5 score!!!!??!!!!

'The Vow' + 'The Notebook'

The two movies share a common undercurrent and that's why i had to review them together...

There are movies which focus on how to look for love .. great!

And then, there are movies which focus on how to maintain or to get through the tough times that often come in love.... And both these movies so wonderfully dwelve on this...

A must watch for all those who have found love.. and also for those who believe in it! :)

Godzilla -- God mat la such movies !

Can u imagine Godzilla to be a slow movie that doesn't keep u on the edge of ur seat ? ! Well they have managed to do just that in this sequel :-)

The trailer looks quite enticing doesnt it? Well the truth is - the trailer had almost all the great scenes from the movies !

So, if u have watched the trailer, whats left for u to watch is how the military prepare -- and keep on goofing up--- to contain the monsters.. I mean it !! And just when things get juicy , they cut off the scene !

The story has too many flaws in it .. And too many useless scenes .. In short , too much of gun trotting military and too little of Godzilla :(

In most scenes, the soldiers are shown facing the monsters with a gun!! I mean godzilla didn't even feel their bullets !!

And the focus is not on Godzilla.. Theres some idiotic and ugly insect like monster, which is the centre of focus for major part of the movie :-(

All in all a pathetic attempt at a sequel which could have raked in millions of dollars ... But will fast go into oblivion..

'Barfi' is copied from 'The Notebook' ... And even Munnabhai, 3 Idiots and even Deewar are rip-offs!! :-(

Heavily based on The NoteBook and sold as an original story!

Is there any bollywood movie out there which seemed so original NOT an unacknowledged rip-off of some hollywood movie!!?? :-(

Even the seemingly original Munnabhai Mbbs and 3 Idiots' Rancho a blatant plagiarism and based on the character of Robin Williams in Patch Adams!!!

Barfi's story of a city girl meeting a countryside hero with mother preventing them from being together is a modified rip-off of The Notebook starring Ryan Gosling :-(

Even You Me aur Hum is a complete rip- off of the same movie .. But that's a well known fact :)

I was surfing through my old movie collection and i came across The Notebook and decided to watch it again as i had almost forgotten everything about it ..

And halfway through the movie comes the scene where the mother takes the heroine to secretly see her (mom's) ex- boyfriend  and tells her how nearly she got married to her, and if she had, how different her life would have been ... That's the scene from barfi, u must be thinking... Well guys This one is fron the Notebook which has been entirely lifted by the Barfi guys :-(
And then it hit me .. The whole barfi story has been a brilliant rip-off of the note  book -- of course with heavy indianisation of the characters .. Jus

I admit barfi is a brilliant movoe .. But its definitely wrong to plagiarize someone's work and pass it off as one's own.. Shameful ...
I mean is there any originality left in Bollywood because, when they want to make anything different and inspiring, they have to take help of a hollywood story and just indianize the whole thing and sell it to us as an original one!!! :-(

Same goes with the character of munna bhai .. A complete rip-off of Patch Adams... Watch the latter and see for yourself how much they match!!

Same thing goes for Three Idiots or Munnabhai,,
Rip-off of Patch Adams!

entire India has recognised Raju Hirani as an original writer .. unique and all...

Well it turns out that he is not that original as we took him for .. Both his movies as well as the characters are heavily based on patch Adams, a brilliant Robin williams movie!!

Watch it to believe it..

Even aamir khan starrer jo jeeta wahi sikandar is a brilliant rip-off of Breaking Away- another great hollywood movie of the 80s which very few of us might have seen .. The entire story is taken as it is from that movie! unbelievable!
I mean, REALLY!! A comlplete rip-off from Breaking Away!!

If that's not enough, even tare zameen par is heavy copycat work..
This time the character of Ameer Khan is again a rip-off of Robin Williams in The Dead Poet's Society!!

Aamir Khan''s Character heavily based
on that of Robin Williams in
Dead poet's Society!
Even the color of posters meet!! :-)

Want more!!?

Dhoom - Torque

Dhoom 3- Now you see me and the prestige

Copied from E T

Koi Mil Gaya - E. T.

You think it's a new phenomenon??? I am afraid it's not! What i am gonna reveal next is quite explosive! Even the all time classic Deewar written by famed Javed Akhtar and Salim are a rip-off and not original!!! I mean you guys don't deserve our respect!
It's quite funny how i came to know about it... i was watching The Sopranos and in that particular episode, Tony is watching an old black and white hollywood movie The Public Enemy in which the famous "Mere pas maa hai" scene was being played in English!!!!

Just like in Deewar, here's a guy who has become an underworld don ( amitabh bachhan) and a good guy ( sashi kapoor) n in a face-off they fight over their mother .. Just like in Deewar!! Isn't this a limit!! And all these years we were thibking wow!.. So original .. So mature ... :-D

Its really shameless to plagiarize entire story ... But to lift entire scenes from a hollywood movie is unbelievably second class!

HOW ABOUT THE SONGS-- well they too aren't any far behind in plagiarism !!

subramanyam's Mene pyaar Kiya is a complete rip-off of tune as well as lyrics from-- ' i just want to say , that i love you'

Pehli nazzar me.. By aatif aslam a ripoff of some korean song!

And many more!! :-)/:-(

Well its Not their fault...
with the pathetic education system that rewards the crammers and punishes the creative ones, its a wonder that bollywood exists at all!! Ha ha :-D

The Spectacular Now

To say that The Spectacular Now is one of the best movies of 2013 won't be an overstatement at all  ... :-)
Though 500 Days of Summer didn't leave that strong an impression on me, this time around, the makers of these movies certainly wowed me!
Before i go any further, i must warn you guys that this not a Notting Hill or 300 kinda movie.. It's a movie that you need to see alone/ with your lady love ( provided she has patience for such movies! ;) ) on a sunday afternoon, with nothing else to do..... If these criteria are not met, you certainly are in serious danger of missing the point/ getting bored / banging your head on the nearest wall / vowing to kill me for recommending this movie! Or even all of the above! :) however in case you have fulfilled the criteria and you keep an open mind and (a patient one too) you shall certainly  be "hit like a bullet straight to the heart", as one of the critics describes this movie!
The story is about Sutter, a good guy, who has several emotional insecurities deep within him.. And as a result is a constant underachiever....
He concentrates his consciousness and his thoughts chiefly on others, so that he doesn't have to deal with his confidence crisis...
However, he happens to meet a girl Amie, who is supposedly 'uncool' ( as all the intelligent and artistic school kids are labelled )....
Being a good guy at heart, he could totally identify with her on emotional level and likes to be in her company...
As in any healthy relationship, good points of  both the partners rub on to each other.... Amie learns to enjoy her life and love herself... While Sutter with Amie's loving support ... Comes to terms with his own insecurities and starts actively working for a better future!!
Now, the lead actors in this movie may not be so cute as Hugh Grant or Drew Barrymore, some might call them even okayish, but that is what the makers ar trying to convey!!
Today, we pick our life partner largely on the basis of external appearnces rather than looking for internal purity.... The overwhelming criteria of majority of us guys are -
-is she strikingly beautiful??
- is she cool in dressing up and partying and has a  cool looking social circle??
If yes marry her!!!
Sutter too had a similar kinda girl friend in past which matched him externally ... The couple Looked envious to others...
but what good was his gf's sexiness when she utterly failed to understand his inner self, his overwhelming insecurities which made him lose the  very desire to succeed and to have a better future... To progress!!
But his 'okayish' looking gf Amie, supports him , encourages him to face his inner demons and to kick them out pf his psyche!! And to have a great life together!!
This is wha one must yearn for in one's love / life partner/ gf ... And this is what the movie is all about!
In today's materialistic world, under the barrage of marketing canpaigns and materialistic and superficial comparisons that.have become so rampant in our social circles, we find ourselves in the race of who has the sexiest looking wife/ gf; the coolest phones; the coolest cars/ the most expensive marriages.....
The characters are deliberately made to look routine ... making the movie
 that much more believable.. realistic..
But living life is after the competition when the party is over and you return home, when you have an emotional or a family crisis, when tragedy strikes....
Life is but in the smller things like making a cup of adrak wali chai that your wife loves so much, in watching a romantic movie with your wife resting her head on your chest and you running your fingers through her long hair...
When after a very tough day at work, she instantly understands from the look on your face or your voice on the phone , that something's wrong....
Life's in enjoying the beauty of nature / countryside together holding each other's hand and on a bicycle rather than zooming in your million dollar ferrari with a gf who is more worried about getting her make up all messed up or her pedicjred hands dirty... And you worrying about your investments ... While you miss the beautiful French countryside that is zipping.past you outside the pricey car!!
That is what this movie is about... To remind us that the inner beauty, complete affectiom and understanding  between each other is what you ahould look for in life .... And your soul mate... :-)
Absolutely true!
